Like Sand Through an Hourglass So Are The Days of Vacation in The Youth of Your Child

Realizing the very short amount of time we, as American, spend with our children on vacation may help us prioritize vacation experiences in creating memories to last their entire lifetime.

According to CBS News,

“The average American worker is entitled to 16 days of paid leave. But the length of an average vacation lasts just over four days.”

Using these numbers the average American child might spend a meager 4 – 5 days of vacation a year with their parents. From ages 0 to 18 years old (during their youth), children spend less than 100 days of vacation with their parents. These statistics fall far behind our European counterparts.

Just taking vacation, begins to be re-evaulated, when the benefits are explored. Benefits of vacation for children begin and end with family bonding. Children who spend more time with their parents are typically healthier and happy. Like adults, children get a chance to relax and recharge during vacations. Sometimes the simple change of pace vacation causes allow a re-focusing of priorities and may cause increased self-reflection leading to greater self-confidence. Vacations also allow a child’s social awareness (i.e. cultural differences) to increase as they explore new locals and cultures as they witness how people live differently, eat differently, and even play differently than they do. Vacations offer experiences outside our comfort zones. These new opportunities can play a role in increasing a child’s natural sense of adventure and exploration.

Capitalizing on vacation time has become increasing important to families, especially American families. Planning vacations to incorporate whole family activities is vital. Choosing experiences each family member will thoroughly enjoy and remember is sometimes a challenging. Capri Mungeam, Co-Founder at Beach Sand Sculptures,

“Not many people have had success in building awesomely tall (over 12” tall) sand castles on their own. So a grandfather, his adult daughter, and her 10 year old son are pretty much on a level playing field when it comes to building sand castles. In a 2-hour SandCastle Lesson we give your family “SandCastle Success” by learning to build sand castles 3 1/2 feet tall! When your family castle sits regally on the beach others up and down the beach will come to “Ohhhh and Ahhhh and Wowww”, wanting to take photo (as if they built it themselves), and asking all kinds of questions. This causes the family to become the SandCastle Rockstars on the beach. SandCastle Lessons are a somewhat magical and extremely unique opportunity for family bonding – Creating Memories in the Sand – is what we call it”.

SandCastle Lessons Not Effected by New Law

SandCastle Lessons Not Effected by New Law

Dateline: Northwest Florida

The new Florida law has caused a virtual sand storm along The SandCastle Coast (aka The Emerald Coast). Implemented July 1, 2018, this rule relegates those who do not own or are not renting a beach front property to designed public beach accesses and the area below the Mean High Tide Line. Followed by Executive Order 18-202 from Governor Rick Scott there is now increased confusion and concern regarding access to Florida beaches.

Visitors and locals of The SandCastle Coast might be wondering how this new law might be effecting SandCastle Lessons with Beach Sand Sculptures. SandCastle Lessons are a continuous TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence recipient and the #1 Thing To Do in Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Miramar Beach, Sandestin, 30A, Santa Rosa Beach, South Walton, Grayton Beach, Watercolor, Seaside, Seagrove, Rosemary Beach, and many other locations along the gorgeous sand beaches of Northwest Florida.

“It has not effected our services. SandCastle Lessons and professional sand sculpting services such as marriage proposals, corporate team building, and branded sand sculptures are services we bring to our clients. If our clients can lawfully use a particular beach, we can offer SandCastle Lessons or other sand sculpting service at their location. We maintain all necessary county/city permits, tax receipts, and insurance giving us the freedom to service clients at county, city, and regional public beach accesses to service clients who may not be renting a gulf front home or resort condo”, asserted Rick Mungeam, Founder and Lead Sand Sculptor at Beach Sand Sculptures headquartered in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Amidst the current questions about beach usage in Florida, if your are planning a vacation to the Panhandle of Florida, be assured you can still Create Memories in the Sand with SandCastle Lessons from Beach Sand Sculptures. For more information:

Small business played part of Florida’s Record Year

For the eighth year in a row – The Sunshine State is reporting record numbers; 116.5 million visitors, according to VISIT FLORIDA. A 3.6 percent increase over the 112.4 million visitors in 2016. Despite the impact on tourism from Hurricane Irma, followed closely by a scare from Hurricane Maria, Florida remains a top destination among travelers worldwide.

Carol Dover, President and CEO of Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association (FRLA), said, “Given all the Sunshine State has to offer as a vacation destination, it comes as no surprise that each year, Florida continues to attract visitors in record numbers, however this welcomed outcome is incredible considering the tough year our state has faced in the wake of Hurricane Irma and validates the state’s sound investment in tourism marketing. FRLA salutes the diligent efforts of VISIT FLORIDA, as well as our hospitality industry partners, who work in concert to ensure Florida remains competitive as a leading global destination. Visitors are not only enjoying our hotels and restaurants, they’re simultaneously boosting state and local revenues, and supporting 1.4 million industry jobs across the state.”

Of course, large tourist attractions such as Disney World, Universal Studios, and Kennedy Space Center create large draws for travelers to Florida yet the economic impact created by thousands of smaller tourism based business should not be looked over. In Destin and South Walton, Florida, every spring Beach Sand Sculptures hires and trains up to 20 SandCastle Coaches to teach their award winning SandCastle Lessons along Florida’s Emerald Coast.

Beach Sand Sculptures who teach SandCastle Lessons on Florida’s Gulf Coast Panhandle, Marketing Director, Capri Mungeam said, “We are not a HUGE company. We are, however, the world’s largest SandCastle Lessons company. Teaching nearly 1000 SandCastle Lessons annually to guests visiting Florida, we typically employ around 15 people during our High Season; June-July-August. The more people who Create Memories in the Sand during a SandCastle Lessons the more people we hire.

SandCastle Lesson bookings correlate directly with the increase in visitors over the last seven year. Opening in 2011 Beach Sand Sculptures was operated part-time by husband and wife team, Rick and Capri Mungeam. Twenty fourteen was the first year they hired employees. In 2017, their employee numbers increased to nearly 15 SandCastle Coaches and a full time Manager. The Mungeams estimate SandCastle Lesson booking will exceed 1000 for 2018. Hundreds of small businesses across Florida have experience similar number increase as the Visit Florida report indicates. Demonstrating smaller businesses have a strong accumulated effect on Florida’s economy.
